If you heard yesterday’s program you also heard now former Edmonton high school science teacher Lynden Dorval speak to the termination letter he received, ending his 30-plus year career as an educator. Or at least that’s the intent of the letter. Mr. Dorval expressed his determination to fight the termination and judging by emails and calls to te show he has many supporters.
What was also concerning is that Mr. Dorval read from the termination letter and stated what had been written concerning his attitude about losing his job was simply untrue. Mr. Dorval stated he has a witness to the actual conversation which led to the comments in the letter. Clearly, this situation isn’t over, at least as far as the now former teacher is concerned.
I have now spoken with Lynden Dorval on perhaps a half dozen occasions and while I’m in no position to assess his skills as a classroom educator, Mr. Dorval has consistently spoken respectfully of his profession, his students and his fellow front line teachers. That sentiment of respect has been returned by teachers who took time to email their views of the termination of Mr. Dorval.
I will remain in contact with Lynden Dorval and update you here and on air on future developments as he contests his termination as an Edmonton high school teacher.
